[This ad] looks as though many different ads
have been painted atop each other, using those wonderful lead-based
paints... But as all have weathered equally, none are very legible.

Scott- I've called these "pentimentos" but others like
Gore Vidal and my friend David W. Dunlap from the NY
Times call them palimpsests. It's amazing how the
random process of weathering and aging can create such an elusive
landscape. Thank you for sharing these wonderful images with me
